Our couple of the week!
These two met in high school over friendly rivalry and ended up dating through college and even had a couple of years of long distance! Their stories vary but their love remains the same! Check out the two stories these lovebirds gave when we asked what their story was!
Emily’s Version:
Branden was a grade below me but I knew who he was because he was a baseball player. Of course I noticed him because he was 6’3. To be honest, I really didn’t like him at first. The first time Branden ever talked to me was at Hallmark and he said, “Your softball team sucks.”
I got over it and the next year we would always high five when we saw each other in the hallway. He got my number, we started texting and the high fives turned into hugs in the hallway. He eventually asked me to go see a movie with him. We went on a couple more dates, including a dodgeball tournament where we were on opposite teams. My team won, of course!
He asked me to be his girlfriend at The Woodlands Waterway on December 12, 2010. A couple more years of high school, a year of long distance, a year of college together, two more years of long distance and he finally decided he would keep me around forever.
When he told me he was taking me to a Bed & Breakfast for my birthday weekend in Wimberly, I was pretty sure he was going to propose. He completely threw me off on the ride there because he was talking about how he didn’t want me to get my hopes up about an engagement and this was just a trip for my birthday. (He must have known I was suspecting it.) I am a little embarrassed to admit this but I still didn’t believe him so when he went to the bathroom I looked in his bag to see if I could find a ring. I didn’t find anything in his bag so I believed him now. If you know me at all, I hate surprises and like to know what’s going on. He knows this and was one step ahead of me because he hid the ring in one of his shoes. This just proves how well he knows me I guess.
On Saturday we went on a beautiful picnic in The Texas Hill Country. I have never seen Branden eat so fast in my life and even asked him what was wrong with him. After a rock throwing competition from the top of the hill, we decided to head back down and walk to the pond at the bottom of the hill. I got mad at him because he insisted that I had to carry the picnic basket down since he carried it on the way up. (The picnic basket was freaking heavy!) So I grabbed the basket and took off down the hill annoyed.
I didn’t hear him walking behind me so
I turned around to see him at the top of the hill on one knee. I immediately screamed “Are you serious?,” and ran back up to him. On May 21, 2016 he asked me to spend forever with him and I said of course!
I can’t wait to marry the man who gives me crap, keeps me on my toes, knows me better than I know myself, is just as competitive as me and goes out of his way to make me feel special. Not to mention, he is extremely handsome, the funniest person I know and is my best friend.
Branden’s Version:
Emily was a year ahead of me in high school, but I knew who she was because she was “popular”. The first thing I ever said to her was “your softball team sucks” inside a Hallmark store. Over the course of the next year, we would high five in the halls at school, nothing more. Then somehow, she got my phone number and we started to text 24/7.
We would always flirt with each other, but I never thought it would turn out serious. After a few months of just texting, I decided to ask her on a date to go see Harry Potter. I decided to make the first move and held her hand the last five minutes of the movie. We went on a couple more dates after that and then I decided I wanted her to be my girlfriend. We went to Genghis Grill, the Water Way, and that’s where I asked her on December 12, 2010.
Fast Forward 6 Years, and I knew she was the one. But before I could ask her to be my wife, I had to ask her dad. Her dad isn’t the easiest person to talk to and that’s putting it lightly. He wasn’t in town and that was the best case scenario because all I had to do was call him. After giving me a hard time, he said yes.
I wanted to do something special for her, so I took her to a bed in breakfast in Wimberly, Texas for her birthday. I didn’t want her to know I was going to pop the question, so I tried to throw her off as much as possible. On the way up there I told her to not get her hopes up because I didn’t have a ring. Little did she know, I had the ring for about 7 months before our trip.
She was the only person that didn’t know what I had planned. I told my parents that I wanted to do this about 2 months before the trip, my mom even helped me plan it. I would have told Emily’s family before we left, but her mom can’t keep a surprise from Emily (Love you Beth) so I just told them the day before I popped the question. I also hid the ring in a shoe because I didn’t want her to find it and I know how nosy she is.
We had a picnic planned one day and I knew that was when I wanted to do it. We walked to the top of the hill with our picnic basket and I had the ring in the pocket of my cargo shorts. She always asks me if I was nervous before asking. What did I have to be nervous about? We had been dating for 6 years, she’d better say yes! We finished eating and I was trying to figure out when I was going to ask her. She wouldn’t leave my side while we were up there so I couldn’t get down on one knee without her seeing me. We were ready to go and that’s when I found my opportunity.
I wanted her to carry the picnic basket and walk in front of me. She got mad and started to storm off, then she noticed that I wasn’t following her. She turned around and there I was on one knee. She came running to me and gave me a huge hug and kiss and said yes. Knowing I get to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate and best friend has made me so happy.
